Disability Mentoring Day (DMD)
Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) takes place on October 19th 2011, and is an opportunity to bring your consumer into the workplace where they can learn about various career opportunities. Through DMD, students and job seekers ("mentees") are paired with an employer (the "mentor") to learn what it means to work in a particular field or occupation. The mentees observe a typical workday, identifying necessary skills and learn about possible internships or employment prospects. While DMD is a one-day event, mentors and mentees are encouraged to stay in touch after the event. Applicants may also participate in workshops and seminars which take place during the time leading up to DMD and on the day itself.DMD provides mentees with opportunities to:
• Learn firsthand about internship and job opportunities.
• Develop lasting mentor relationships.
• Target career skills for improvement.
• Explore possible career paths.
• Demonstrate their skills to potential employers.
• Work closely with someone working in their desired career field.
• Understand the vital connection between school and work.
• Gain greater confidence in their employability.
All job seekers with disabilities in the community are welcome to participate: including Veterans, college students and disabled high school juniors and seniors. We are asking vocational rehabilitation programs to please distribute this information and assist with inviting "experience ready" disabled job seekers and students in registering for DMD.
Please download the MOPD DMD flyer and mentee application.
