Campaign for Disability Employment "I Can" PSA Honored at National Awards Ceremony

The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy received national recognition at the 2011 PRWeek Awards in New York City for its "I Can" public service announcement (PSA). The PSA received Honorable Mention in the category of Best Use of Audio/Video.

Myths & Stereotypes about Mental Disabilities Greatest Barrier to Employment

At a hearing held by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) experts and people with disabilities reported that the greatest barriers to employment for people with intellectual and psychiatric disabilities are employers’ myths and fears about their condition. This group's rate of unemployment and underemployment far exceeds the national average. The EEOC enforces the nation’s laws prohibiting employment discrimination.
